UN Certified Packaging Guide

What does UN mean for hazardous materials?

UN stands for United Nations, and is used in reference to Hazardous Materials in the context of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (also known as the UN Model Regulations). These regulations are an international standard that is used to classify, package, and transport hazardous materials and dangerous goods.

What is UN Approved Packaging?

The United Nations tests, builds, and certifies boxes and liners for transporting dangerous materials, both solid and liquid. Special production and testing ensure that UN boxes and packaging can safely handle high-risk goods like infectious substances, flammable items, liquids, chemicals, toxic substances, and pesticides.

What does UN packing group mean?

UN packing group is a classification system used to determine the level of protection needed when shipping hazmat goods. The packing group is based on the degree of hazard posed by the material. There are three packing groups: I, II, and III. Group I is the most hazardous and Group III is the least hazardous.
